Often, it's only in hindsight that we can identify the moments that open our eyes to new possibilities. For James Ingram, one of those pivotal moments happened many years ago when his wife gifted him a camera. That moment was transformative. It turned him from a kid whose goal was to be the principal's least favourite into the award-winning photographer he is today. 

Photography is more than an occupation for James, it has become a way of life. Today, James and Suzanne's home is filled with photographic keepsakes from their world travels, images tracking the growth of their three sons, and a few of Walt, the studio dog. It also features many of the stunning, mindful photographs that have graced design magazines, marketing campaigns, drool-worthy cookbooks, corporate annual reports, and travel publications. 

Talk to any of Jive's clients and you will hear many different reasons why they choose to work with James time and time again. The honesty and truth he captures in the people he shoots, the effort to understand the nature of each client's needs and the attention to detail are the elements that set him and Jive Photographic apart. James and his team undoubtedly have a way of making the experience enjoyable for everyone on set, as well as delivering a polished and meaningful product.

A few years ago, James embraced the natural evolution of his work - he combined his years of experience in capturing stories with still photography with his passion for film to start Jive Photographic Productions. Already experienced with the emotion and engagement required for video storytelling, this expansion of services was a no brainer and a perfect fit for a world where smartphones and data connections are ubiquitous. Having worked with clients to tell their photographic stories for decades, adding video was a natural extension of James' talent and energy, and has proven to be extremely valuable to those who have trusted James to bring their vision to life. 

While the eyes behind the camera may now be slightly crinkled at the corners, they still begin each new project with the passion, enthusiasm and curiosity of that young man who received his first camera all those years ago. 

Mark Archibald

When you consider the road that Mark took to get him where he is today, it's not at all surprising he wears so many hats at Jive. Some people know at an early age what they want to do with their lives, others find their happiness in the diversity offered by reinvention. Mark undoubtedly can be found in the latter group. With a background in computer science and business alongside his current thirst for knowledge in all things video and photography he offers an incredibly valuable eye to all projects.

It all began with Mark graduating top of his class from the photography program at NSCC which then in turn landed him an internship at Jive. From James' perspective, making Mark a member of the Jive team was an easy decision. "Mark has a thirst and a capacity for learning new skills and constantly expanding on existing skill sets. He never stops trying to improve. And because we have worked together on so many projects, he has an innate understanding of what I’m looking for and what is required to execute the shot in question." 

Mark's commitment to the crafts of photography and video production are something he and James share. But it is Mark's broad skillset which compliments the wide variety of Jive's clients and projects that make him a key member of the team. " Mark brings so much to every shoot, but it is his capacity for creative problem solving that makes every project go more smoothly and translates to better work for our clients that really stands out." 

Mark's expansive abilities help create a stand out experience for each client. His problem solving and creative eye are undoubtedly part of what keep clients coming back to Jive time and time again. 

Rix Mascarenhas 

Photographer | Videographer | Video Editor | Audio Technician | Drone Pilot 

Rix’s rich background of vast experience makes him an absolute dream to work with. Born and raised in São Paulo Brazil, Rix started his career as a luthier and musician before taking up photography out of the necessity to capture the instruments he forged. This cross section between the audio and visual arts gifts a valuable eye to any project Rix takes on.

Since picking up a camera, Rix has rarely put it down. He began to experiment with street, wildlife and product photography before making a life changing decision, to move to Nova Scotia and cultivate a career as a photographer. Soon he would be enrolled at NSCC and committed to learning everything possible about this art form. Now an alumnus, Rix has brought his talents to JIVE, adding value every step of the way.

Rix’s qualifications include being a certified drone pilot, an experienced audio technician, and a proficient writer. He takes great pride in his work and shows up prepared to problem solve and create beautiful work time and time again. A true lover of art, Rix prioritizes telling meaningful stories and bringing concepts to life. An invaluable addition to the team, Rix will enhance all projects produced by JIVE.
